SEPARATING WORK FROM HOME
Working from home is the new normal for many people. But without the right set-up, you might find yourself unable to escape the office.
Many of us grew accustomed to working from home last year. Some loved the freedom of working in their PJs while others hated the isolation.
Either way, while we all hope that the worst of the pandemic is behind us, we may yet find ourselves working from home more often.
For the sake of your physical and mental health, it’s really important that you have somewhere suitable to conduct business.
Create your space
We don’t all have the luxury of a dedicated home office, but you still need to separate your professional life from your home life. Otherwise, your home might stop being the sanctuary it’s supposed to be.
If you’re stuck working on the kitchen bench, or maybe the dining table, you could try creating a partition that screens off your work zone from the home – something you can take down easily and stash away at the end of the working day.
Or the solution could be as simple as putting away ALL your work stuff each day, so you don’t have to look at it while eating dinner or watching TV.
Be zen
When you have your space, keep it clean and tidy. At the end of each week (or each day if you’re particularly messy) put things away and chuck out what you no longer need. You’ll feel better sitting down for work on Monday morning.
Yes, it might take a few minutes. But think about all the time you’re saving commuting each day!
Sit comfortably
You might need things like a printer or a Wi-Fi booster, but you definitely need a comfortable chair. After a computer, it’s probably your single most important piece of office equipment if you’re going to spend weeks or months sitting in the same position.
You might also need to raise your computer, or get a lamp – little things that help take the strain off your body will aid concentration and keep you healthy.
Leave work at the office
Ultimately you want to set yourself up so that when you knock off for the day, you can truly relax and enjoy your home environment. After all, that’s what life at St. Germain is all about!
