PROPOSAL FOR NAMING OF A PARK ON ST.GERMAIN ESTATE

Proposal to name a new park at 7i Ranger Street, Clyde North Vic 3978 (St.Germain Estate) – ‘Gill Park’

The developers of St.Germain Estate, St Germain Property Group (STGPG) are inviting the community to provide feedback regarding a proposed name for the new park located at 7i Ranger Street, Clyde North Vic 3978.

The name Gill Park is being proposed by STGPG to honour Gordon and Margaret Gill, whose vision and efforts were instrumental in transforming the area from farmland into the thriving community of St.Germain Estate.

  • Pioneers of Local Development: In 1980, Gordon and Margaret purchased a 171-hectare property known as Oakwood, renaming it Lerwick Park. For 35 years, they farmed sheep and cattle on this land before initiating its transformation into what is now the St.Germain Estate. Their foresight and commitment laid the foundation for a dynamic, modern community.
  • Community Builders: Beyond farming, the Gill’s significantly contributed to the development of Clyde North. They established Berwick Buslines, acquiring land along Clyde Road to create a local transport hub. This service was essential in connecting residents, students, and workers to surrounding areas, enhancing community accessibility and growth.
  • Economic and Commercial Development: After selling Berwick Buslines, the Gills redeveloped the land into a vibrant commercial precinct, supporting local businesses and providing essential services to the growing population. Their efforts have had a lasting impact on the economic prosperity of the region.
  • Dedicated Community Members: Gordon, a skilled accountant, provided valuable financial guidance to regional small businesses, helping them thrive. Margaret was actively involved in various sporting groups, further contributing to the local community’s social fabric.

This naming proposal complies with Geographic names Victoria (GNV) Naming Rules for Places in Victoria 2022 guidelines Principle I – Using commemorative names.
